If you’re a beginning veteran farmer or rancher, a homesteader looking to scale, or an aspiring agri-business owner, then join us for one of our one-day Intro to Grow Workshops! These programs are open to both veterans and community members who are excited to learn more.

What to expect:

  • An overview of Hoʻōla Farms’ programs, including Groundwork to Grow training, the Hilo Food Hub, and the Hawai’i Farm-to-Car Market.
  • An overview of how to start an agriculture business in Hawai’i.
  • Ability to learn about veteran scholarships and support from Hoʻōla Farms.
  • Upcoming programs and how to apply.

Intro to Grow workshops max out at 20 participants, so space is limited. We will close registration when capacity is met.

Our one-day Intro to Grow Workshops are open to both veterans and community members who are excited to learn more about farming and ranching on Hawaiʻi Island. The workshops max out at 20 participants, so space is limited. We will close registration when capacity is met. Most Intro to Grow workshops are FREE, and some specialty Intro to Grow workshops have a small registration fee.

  • How much does an Intro class cost?Do I need to be Veteran

    Most Intro classes are free, but some have a small charge which will be listed in the class description. Scholarships are available for Veterans and Veteran families.

  • Do I have to be a Veteran to take a class?

    Nope, all classes are open to the public.

  • Where are you located?

    Most of the classes are located in Hilo, on the East side of Hawai’i Island.

⚠️ Safety Info

Our programs involve multiple farm tours, which include walking over uneven ground, hands-on farming activities, and other moderately strenuous actions.

Program participants please note the following:

  • There are beehives at the Ranch property in Hilo. Please let us know if you are allergic.
  • Closed-toed shoes should be worn for all farm tours
  • Sun protection should be worn in outdoor settings.
  • All on-site educational program participants must complete a liability waiver.
