This year, we added a new fundraiser to our Hawaiʻi Farm-to-Car (HF2C) program called Feed a Neighbor, which started during the SNAP pause at the end of 2025 and has continued thanks to the generosity of our community! Through this program, HF2C customers can add a donation to their order to fund a food bag that’s sourced directly from HF2C producers for individuals and ʻohana on Hawaiʻi Island with limited food access.
Here’s how it works
When you place your HF2C order, you can add a $25 donation for an individual or $50 for a family. Those donations pool together until we have enough to source, sort, and distribute a round of locally grown food bags through our Food is Medicine program. When we’re ready to distribute, we reach out to HF2C customers who are interested and connect with community partners who have relationships with people facing food access challenges. We ask about your ʻohana size so we can make sure every household gets what they need. And because every bag is sourced directly from HF2C producers, your donation supports our local farmers at the same time.
Two rounds down, more to come
Both rounds of distribution have gone to HF2C customers as well as kūpuna at Hale Nā Koa ʻO Hanakahi, an affordable senior housing community in Hilo where many residents don’t have transportation to get to a market or food pantry. We’re already working toward our third round.
Since launching, we’ve been able to distribute over 194 food bags and counting. Every bag is filled with Hawaiʻi-grown and produced food, packed with care, and distributed to a neighbor who needs it.
Mahalo to every customer who has been part of this. You’re the reason it keeps going!
